Many have tried to wrestle with David Foster Wallace’s magnum opus, Infinite Jest, and many have failed. The book is over 1,000 pages, so one can easily sympathize with those who gave up the struggle. Why suffer a post-post-modern giant when one could read six or seven more manageable, enjoyable and perhaps better works with similar effort? At two hundred pages in, I’m still asking myself that question
So apparently this is a thing…
I’ve read other books over a 1,000 pages before but this work’s length discourages me. I don’t think it’s just page count that’s discouraging me from picking it up. I’ve never met anyone who has read through the book.
